Prior to your visit, you will be mailed a registration form, a medical history questionnaire, a booklet about what to expect at your visit and a map to the office. This information can also be found on our website. Please check with your primary care physician to see whether an insurance referral from your primary care physician is needed prior to your visit and, if needed, bring this with you as well.
Upon arrival at our office, a medical technician will take a more detailed medical and social history. The technician will also check your vision and dilate your eyes. On an initial exam, both eyes will be dilated and the dilation can last for several hours after your visit. For this reason, we recommend that you bring a driver with you.
After your eyes are fully dilated, you will be thoroughly examined by a retina specialist. After completing the examination, your doctor may order further testing. After examination and testing are complete, your doctor will explain the findings to you and go over your care options. Finally, if any treatment is needed, it may be performed during your visit, or it may be scheduled at a future visit. Please plan to be in our office for approximately 2-3 hours in case you need testing in addition to your examination.
